About the Coffee
Gachiru Estate is owned and operated by farmer James Gakuru Ngobia. In Kenya, coffee is traditionally sold to washing stations and lumped together to make large lots, but James has his own small wet mill that ensures full traceability back to his farm. The coffee is a mix of the varieties SL28 and a newer leaf rust resistant cultivar called Batian, which is named after the highest peak on Mt. Kenya and can produce cherry in only two years. That's fast! This coffee is an AA grade which means the coffee was sorted by size with AA being the largest size grouping. It is fully washed, dried on raised beds, and is raked and turned over every couple hours during peak sun to ensure even drying.
