About the Coffee
This stunner of a coffee hails from the Kiunyu washing station – or factory as they are called in Kenya – which is owned and operated by the Karithathi Farmers Cooperative Society. Located in the Kirinyaga Region, just south of Mt. Kenya. The Kiunyu washing station is centered around many groups of smallholder farmers who grow coffee here at high elevations of around 1,670 MASL. The producers who contribute coffees to Kiunyu receive discounts on seedlings and assistance from agronomists within the co-op, giving them a jump start, and some shared knowledge of techniques that have worked in the past to help them get started. The coffee is picked, sorted, fermented, fully washed, and finally dried on raised beds in the sun, covered during the hottest parts of the day and if any rain showers come by, thus producing flavors that are everything we love in a coffee from Kenya. Bright, citrusy, clean, floral, this AA grade coffee has it all!
