About the Coffee
We've purchased this coffee a few times now, and as far as we can tell, the quality is only getting better! Benchmark Coffee Traders, an importer based out of Chicago who has direct family ties to the Sigri Estate, consistently brings high-quality containers of their coffees to the US year after year. This peaberry grade coffee comes from the Wahgi Valley of Papua New Guinea, an area in the Western Highlands of the country where coffee grows well because of high elevations, volcanic soil, and abundant rainfall. This new coffee is fully washed, going through their own brand of processing they call the Kula Processing Method. This is a meticulous sorting and washing process that brings out very clean and vibrant flavors from their coffees. The process starts with picking only the ripest cherries, pulping them the day of picking, fermenting with an interesting three day process where the cherries are rinsed daily, and finally dried on raised beds and sorted by hand.
