About the Coffee
The Sigri Estate is a family-run operation that employs many folks in the Wahgi Valley of the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Here they work with producers who do the growing, picking, and processing, and support local farmers by creating income for families to help fuel the economy. On top of providing work, Benchmark – our importer for this specific coffee – also funds many social projects for the community, including providing elementary schools for the children of the coffee pickers, free housing during the harvest season, free basic healthcare, and has purchased and installed water tanks for the community. We've roasted coffee from Sigri Estate many times over the years, and it's always exciting to have a fresh crop back in the Anodyne roastery.

Processing
This coffee from Sigri Estate actually goes through their very own 'Kula' processing method. There are very strict guidelines for which coffees can be picked and processed, including being dried on raised beds and going through two rounds of color sorting. This begins with only picking the ripest red cherries, then going through a unique fermentation process which includes a few days of fermentation with intermittent washing, followed by a full day being immersed in water which they say helps to balance the flavors. Finally, the coffee goes through rigorous sorting before export.
